Bally Artist Award

The Bally Foundation continues to intensify the relationship and collaboration with the territory’s institutions, local communities, associations, and companies, as well as its dialogue at the national and international level. The Bally Artist Award, which since 2008 has been awarded to Swiss artists or artists resident in Switzerland who are particularly involved the field of research between know-how and nature, has reached a new stage. Through a renewed and intensified collaboration with the Museo della Svizzera Italiana, the winners of the Bally Artist Award will now see their work acquired and integrated into the MASI collections and will benefit from a two-month solo exhibition at MASI Palazzo Reali during the year of their win.

For the 2023 award, the Bally Foundation and the MASI called on seven internationally renowned nominees to select the participating artists: Yasmin Afschar (art historian and curator at the Aargauer Kunsthaus), Simon Castet (director of strategic initiatives at LUMA, Arles), Julien Fronsacq (chief curator, MAMCO, Geneva), Dominique Koch (winner of the Bally Artist Award in 2022), Sibilla Panzeri (project manager at Pro Helvetia), Sandra Patron (director of CAPC, Bordeaux) and Catherine Wood (program director, Tate Modern, London). These nominated artists presented project which was examined by a jury composed of Nicolas Girotto and Vittoria Matarrese, president and director of the Foundation, Tobia Bezzola director of the MASI, Elena Filipovic, director and curator of the Kunsthalle Basel, and Diana Segantini, specialist in the Arab world, director of Segantini Unlimited and independent curator.
